Is COSRX Cruelty-Free and Vegan? While many beauty brands are coming up with taglines like “100% vegan and cruelty-free”, people fall for the baits. In this article, we will find out if COSRX is cruelty-free.
As veganism is spreading like wildfire, people are becoming more conscious about their planet. Whether opting for conscious eating habits or making healthy lifestyle choices, all of it keeps animal cruelty at bay.
In fact, people are giving up their luxuries to contribute to the greater good of animals. Thrifting instead of a new pair of jeans, Faux instead of leather, and now vegan makeup instead of crueler kits– all for creating a conscious planet.
Witnessing that, the beauty and skincare industry has also become more ethical and cruelty-free. As we, consumers, are growing conscious, many brands are coming up with “vegan” and “cruelty-free” products.
COSRX is one such brand– “vegan” and “cruelty-free” are its hallmarks. COSRX is a big player in the beauty world, with a huge following (in millions!). They’ve got many skin care products – from toners and cleansers to creams and lotions.
But the question is: “Is COSRX cruelty-free and vegan“? To answer this, let’s start by understanding what vegan and cruelty-free products are.
What are cruelty-free and vegan products?
A vegan product has no animal ingredients in it. This means the product has all the plant derivatives like coconut sugar instead of honey and vetiver instead of beeswax.
But are all vegan products cruelty-free? The answer is NO.
This might come as a shock, but that’s the truth. Why? It’s because some products may still go through “vivisection.” Vivisection means that the product has to go through animal trials. So, even if a product is vegan, it may not be cruelty-free.
Now, we are ready to find out the answer to the question; Is COSRX vegan and cruelty-free?
What are the claims of COSRX?
COSRX has created a dedicated fan base– thanks to its minimalist approach to skincare. The brand proudly says it doesn’t harm animals and doesn’t test on them. But we’re not completely sure if this is true.
So, we decided to dig and look at what’s inside their products. Of course, to find out if COSRX is as friendly to animals and vegan as they say.
Does COSRX use "vegan" and "cruelty-free" ingredients in its products?
When we went through the ingredients and formulations of their products, many of them were plant-derived. In fact, we saw a huge list of vegan products as well.
There were vegan sun creams, facial mists, blackhead removal liquids, cover cushions, etc. And honestly, this gave us a little relief. But then, some things bothered us– some products were not 100% vegan.
An “Advanced Snail 92 All in one cream” had 92% Snail Secretion filtrate. As you know, snail secretion filtrate is great for repairing and hydrating your skin, it is widely used in the skincare industry.
While this was a massive blow, some were even worse (we will talk about that in a while).
So, even if there are many vegan products (by COSRX), it is not 100% vegan.
Is COSRX cruelty-free?
Now. It’s time to face the other part of the question, “Is COSRX cruelty-free?” To know that, we have to focus on three things:
- Cruelty-free Certifications:
A simple way to check if a brand is kind to animals is to look at their certificates. These certificates come from groups that check if a brand is doing the right things.
They’re like a thumbs-up from experts who make sure animals are treated well.
For example, PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) is an Animal Rights Organization that sanctions cruelty-free certification to different brands.
Now, does COSRX have the certification from PETA? The answer is No.
COSRX’s website does not display any third-party certifications( including PETA)for being vegan or cruelty-free.
While not having the certifications does not wash away their claims, having the certification is a game-changer.
So, is COSRX cruelty-free? Well, the chances are less.
- Cruelty-Free Practices:
COSRX’s stance on cruelty-free practices is more consistent. They’re claiming that they don’t test on animals for their products. But you have to check whether their manufacturers or suppliers are cruelty-free.
Why? Because some companies claim to be cruelty-free but rely on external manufacturers or laboratories that support vivisection.
Fortunately, COSRX has no such external suppliers. It makes its products with vegan and cruelty-free labs and manufacturers.
Question: Is COSRX cruelty-free?
Ans: Well, the answer is still unclear.
- Consumer Reviews and Community Insights:
Brands that are all about being kind to animals and using the good stuff usually spill the beans about what they’re using. They share their secret recipe, so to speak.
When you’re trying to see if COSRX is really being honest about being vegan, it’s smart to listen to people who are experts about where ingredients come from. And guess what? You can totally ask COSRX directly to spill the beans about their products.
In this digital age, people are all about sharing stories. This is like gold for finding out if COSRX is the real deal with being kind to animals and vegan-friendly.
If you want to know if COSRX’s products are truly good for animals and vegan-approved, listen to what people who’ve used them have to say.
WRAPPING IT UP
COSRX has many vegan products, and there is no doubt about it. But the real concern is about the “cruelty” towards “animals.” It is difficult to find out if COSRX is really living up to its promise of being animal-friendly and vegan.
COSRX is clear about not testing on animals, which is great news. But there might be a small chance that some products still have some animal ingredients (like the snail secretion cream).
In fact, COSRX doesn’t have a certification from PETA, which is another cause of concern.
But what can you do to make sure that the products you use are 100% vegan and cruelty-free? You can become a conscious customer – by researching the products.
You have to go through the ingredient list and find out for yourself. If things look fishy, you can try to ask the product team (mail them if you can).
Keep in mind, by learning more and making the right choices, you’re not just giving a thumbs-up to brands that share your values – you’re also making the world a better place for animals.
